Our board structure

Our Board of Trustees is responsible for Choir with No Name’s governance. Trustees are appointed by the board of trustees. The Board meets at least four times a year. Trustees hold office for a term of three years. Except in exceptional circumstances, no Trustee may hold office for more than two consecutive terms.

The Trustees delegate management responsibilities to the Chief Executive. The board also has sub-committees which take a closer look at certain functions to sub-committees. Each sub-committee has specific terms of reference and a chair appointed by the Trustees. Trustees strengthen the sub-committees by co-opting experts in the relevant field. Sub-committees are supported by regular reporting from the Chief Executive and the sub-committees to the Board of Trustees.

Board Experience Programme

At the Choir with No Name, our members are at the heart of everything we do. In 2025, we launched the Board Experience Programme, an initiative designed to give choir members the opportunity to sit in on a trustee meeting, review key documents, ask questions, and gain an inside look at how the Choir with No Name is governed.

The programme aims to demystify the role of trustees, bring member voices directly into our governance, and help identify potential future trustees from within our choirs. By creating space on our Board for people with lived experience of homelessness, we hope to ensure the Choir with No Name is shaped by those who understand our mission most deeply. Participants also gain valuable skills, confidence, and insight in a supportive environment.

This initiative forms part of our Lottery-funded organisational co-production strategy and will run for one year, giving members time to fully understand what being a trustee involves. No previous experience was required - just enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to take part.
