Choir Members Step into Key Roles, Strengthening Community and Shaping the Future of the Choir with No Name
This Big Give week we’re celebrating the long-term impact of being part of our choirs, helping people experiencing homelessness to build confidence, friendships, learn new skills and use existing ones. You can help double the impact this week – donate today and it will be doubled through match funding at no extra cost to you!
At the Choir with No Name, our members are at the heart of everything we do - and increasingly, they’re helping to run the show, too. From keeping rehearsals running smoothly and cooking meals for their fellow choir members, to managing social media channels and advising our Board, members are stepping into vital roles that make our choirs stronger, more inclusive, and more reflective of the communities we work with.
November this year marked an especially exciting milestone with the launch of our new Board Experience Programme, an initiative designed to open the doors of charity governance to our members. The programme gives participants the opportunity to sit in on trustee meetings, explore essential documents, ask questions, offer ideas and feedback, and gain first-hand insight into how decisions are made at the highest level of the organisation.
The goal is simple: to demystify what trustees do, bring member voices directly into the core of our governance, and develop a pathway for members with lived experience of homelessness to become future trustees themselves. No prior governance experience is required, just enthusiasm, curiosity, and a commitment to shaping the future of the Choir with No Name.
“It is important to us that people with first-hand knowledge and lived experience of homelessness participate on our Board to steer the organisation effectively”
Vital Roles, Real Impact
But leadership at the Choir with No Name extends far beyond the boardroom. Across our choirs, members are stepping up in ways that transform weekly rehearsals and build a sense of ownership and community pride.
Helping to set up rehearsal spaces, welcome newcomers, and ensure sessions run smoothly.
Kitchen volunteers cook warm, delicious meals each week - a vital part of the CWNN experience that brings people together around the table.
Digital Storytellers share stories, photos, and behind-the-scenes moments on social media that give the world a window into the joy of our choirs.
Workshop leaders – running workshops with a range of different communities from outreach to corporates
These roles don’t just make our choirs function - they empower members, build confidence, and offer pathways to new skills and opportunities to move away from homelessness and take positive steps in their life.
Digital Storyteller
Just one of the ways our choir members take on vital roles to help shape our work by sharing news from their choir, sharing the joy of what we do with the world via social media,
As members continue to take on roles throughout the organisation, one thing is clear: the Choir with No Name is strongest when shaped by those who understand its mission most deeply - the people who walk through our doors each week, sing their hearts out, share a meal, and build a community together.
Their leadership - whether in the kitchen, online, at rehearsals, or in the boardroom - is helping create a more inclusive, resilient, and representative future for our choirs.
And this is just the beginning.
Looking Ahead
As the choir continues to expand its reach, members will play an even greater role in guiding its direction and ensuring its mission stays true. What’s happening behind the scenes is more than teamwork, it’s a testament to the power of community, creativity, and shared purpose.
With voices raised onstage and working together offstage, the choir is proving that its greatest harmony comes not just from its music, but from the people who make it possible.
Help more people impacted by homelessness access the life-changing power of music, donate today.
