Dan, Liverpool
I joined Choir with No Name Liverpool in March 2015 and for the past year I have helped set up the music equipment for weekly rehearsals. I enjoy helping out with the ‘set-up crew’ each week, and we get early access to biscuits and tea!
My life has changed a lot since I joined the choir. I have experienced homelessness through living in a hostel for 9 months, and now I’m maintaining steady employment with Lush and have worked there for 7 years. In the early years of attending choir, I developed some necessary people skills, and I’ve gained confidence and a clearer sense of myself.
The choir offers me a sense of community and belonging and is an important part of my week. I’ve always loved singing throughout my whole life and being a choir member helps me to cherish positive memories. I feel that I’ve made lifelong friendships and connections through the various gigs and rehearsals that we do. The Choir with No Name changes lives for the better and allows people to thrive in a safe welcoming space.
Our Big Christmas Singalong is a massive fixture of the choir calendar due to its raucous energy, and although I’m not the biggest fan of Christmas, this is a really positive part of the festive season for me. The Christmas gig brings joy to people who may find Christmas difficult for whatever reason and it’s a space to forget your troubles and just have a good time with the choir community.”
